was very surprised by this book. the 1st in the series. hoping the ride only gets better.
These are the best books in the world. My best friend's mom gave me this book to read. I fell in love with these books last year. I am on edge waiting for the next one to come out. She and I have an affinity for vampire stories. When she gave it to me, she asked had I ever heard of vampire love stories.Needless to say, I'm HOOKED. That's how good the series is. It is a must have for readers of these type books.
From the description and title I thought this would be a little darker, scarier and rougher than I usually like. I TOTALLY LOVED IT. Since my favorite series before this was the Night Huntress series, The Hollows and Kitty series. This turned out to be SO MUCH BETTER than I ever thought. I am a sucker for a good romance, and I read this in 2 days. Can't wait till the next.
It is very refreshing to read a love story with a strong plot that winds through each consecutive book.Others have given the synopsis of the story, so I won't, but I definitely recommend reading 'Dark Lover' if you are looking for a new series of books to read, and then continuing on with the rest. Still, as with each of the masterfully written books of this series, it is easy to fall in love with the hero who has great strengths and a definite weakness (or two).
Authors that make my best reads list include Diana Gabaldon, Jeaniene Frost, Karen Marie Moning (Fever series), and the early Jude Devereux-Montgomery novels. I'd like to preface this by saying I am beyond the definition of an avid reader, and also extremely particular.
Perhaps it would be better to say that Wrath wasn't my favorite brother. JR Ward has recently jumped onto my list.
While I didn't find Dark Lover to be the 'best' in JR Ward's BDB series, it is a necessary and very good start to the wonderfully gritty world of the Brothers. Particularly satisfying was that the overall story plot wasn't overwhelmed by the love story.
I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
I grew to care about the characters and am excited to see how the other Brothers develop. So it took a few chapters for me to get use to JR Ward's style. I read the Dark Hunter series by Sherilyn Kenyon first. What I didn't like was that the book was almost over, last 4 chapters, and then the action and romance started picking up. The story laid down a lot of the background for the series in this book so as a result the action was several chapters in. I did like how descriptive it was and I could mentally picture each scene perfectly. I am not sure if that's a trend of paranormal writers because SK starting doing that too towards the end of the series. But I would recommend this story and look forward to moving through the series.
